Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo show how petty their rivalry is in FIFA vote

Ronaldo & Messi

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo highlighted how petty their rivalry to be considered the best player in the world remains with their voting selections for the inaugural Fifa Best Men’s Player of the Year award.

As captains of their respective countries, both players were able to vote for the prestigious gong, picking three players they felt worthy of the accolade.

Unsurprisingly considering how bitter their relationship has always been, neither voted for each other. Instead, both voted solely for team-mates in what appears like a cop out by the Barcelona and Real Madrid stars.

Messi voted for Luis Suarez, Neymar and Andres Iniesta. Meanwhile Ronaldo voted for Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Sergio Ramos.

Even if they had voted for each other, it wouldn’t have mattered with Ronaldo comfortably winning the prize.
